Quoteable Quote: "Previous fundraisers brought in money, but nothing close
to this."
Daniela de la Piedra spends all her time counting money these days. It's understandable, considering her chapter of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. raised more than three times as much as they expected from their recent program with CampusFundraiser.
"Fundraising is essential for carrying out our services and programs" she states simply. With a group that is dedicated to scholarly excellence; the empowerment of the Universal Woman; cultural and political awareness; and community activism, it's easy to see countless directions that money could go in every day.
"We fundraise year round" says Daniela "And we've tried everything imaginable – raffles, merengue dance lessons, selling sorority paraphernalia…you name it." Then a sorority sister introduced her to CampusFundraiser's Student Magazine program – a quick fundraiser with potential to raise large amounts of money in a short period - and she was hooked.
"The fundraiser seemed realistic. It was something we could participate in successfully." And between the constant contact from people at CampusFundraiser and the "extremely informative" start-up kit, their success was virtually guaranteed from the outset.
But Daniela also offers a warning: "This program takes a lot of determination. While everyone in our group was very enthusiastic, it was quite difficult for some to sell subscriptions to the people they knew." Having members who were willing to pitch in on the tougher sales helped them surpass their goal.
Looking to the future, the Gamma Alpha chapter will be using the money to bring the play "Yo Soy Latina" (I am Latina) from New York City for a performance. Everyone in the group is understandably excited at the phenomenal results they were able to produce with just three days of work.
