National Headquarters, NJ — The weekend of October 25th proved to be a rewarding and distinguished day for the sisters of Lambda Theta Alpha. On Saturday, October 25, 2003, the chapters of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. participated in the first-ever "Advance our Youth…LTA Style", a national community service project in celebration and observance of Make a Difference Day 2003. Sisters across the nation outreached to their communities' youth by coordinating a one-day mentoring workshop to local grade, middle, and high school youth, which was designed to encourage higher education and healthy developmental lives among potentially at-risk youth. The mentoring workshops included topics such as: encouraging youth to stay away from drugs and alcohol, reinforcing the negatives of smoking, ensuring healthy development, and demonstrating the positives of attaining higher education. Sisters hosted the workshops by providing an array of resources including video presentations, power point demonstrations, skits, creating informational packets, assisting teens in filling out college applications, and group discussions to name a few. This project was carried out in the states of NJ, NY, MD, TN, IL, CA, FL, VA, WA, MI, TX, AZ, PA and NM. Lambda Theta Alpha is proud of this phenomenal accomplishment, as over 100 of our nation's youth were inspired by the sisters of LTA to seek empowerment as our country's future leaders. Lambda Theta Alpha seeks to continue our tradition of serving our local communities through service and activism.
Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. is a philanthropic-based Greek letter organization whose mission includes the fostering of academic excellence and promotion of community activism in all arenas, as well as the sponsorship of cultural and educational programs. Together as women, as leaders, activists, mothers, wives, students and professionals, Lambda Theta Alpha grows stronger as universal women.
