Lambda Theta
Alpha
Service, Scholarship, & Professional Development
A Standard of Excellence on all Levels
This year
Lambda Theta Alpha made its most significant impact ever across the country.
Members representing different constituencies continued to demonstrate the
highest level of leadership. Through their efforts, Lambda Theta Alpha was
able to provide service to the community, prove a commitment to academic
advancement, and produce the competent, promising leaders of tomorrow.
Exemplary progress was made in these fields due to the unified undertaking
of members on Chapter, Area, and National levels.
The
membership of Lambda Theta Alpha remains ever true to upholding our
principles and carrying out our mission as set forth by our founders. We are
involved in numerous philanthropic efforts and have taken our dedication to
community service to new heights through the creation of our own outreach
program F.U.T.U.R.O. (Spanish for future). F.U.T.U.R.O. is an acronym for
Focused Urban Teens United and Ready for Opportunity, a program designed to
serve as a support system to help at risk adolescents successfully graduate
middle and high school while helping them stay on the path to a bright
future.
It is our
hope that our guidance will instill a sense of optimism, pride, and
enthusiasm towards education and life. As role models we demonstrate and
prove to young students that they like us can have goals and be the strong
leaders of tomorrow. The program also provides students with the opportunity
to apply for a $1000 scholarship, awarded at the National Awards Dinner by
Lambda Theta Alpha. The scholarship will be granted to a student who
embodies the spirit of F.U.T.U.R.O.
Every day
our members make us proud as they selflessly help others. Each member shines
as she goes above and beyond our expectations. One such member has not only
dedicated herself to the community but also to her scholastic studies. As an
academic sorority we were proud to nominate Thais Rodriguez of Chi Chapter,
University of Florida, for NALFO's National Award for Academic Excellence
2002. Throughout her college career, Thais maintained a perfect 4.0
cumulative grade point average. Her academic honors and achievements are
many and include the following:

Being an
LTA does not end after college, it is a lifelong involvement. For this and
other reasons we are always looking for ways to better prepare our members
for post-college life. Our National Convention, held annually, is one avenue
that allows us to interact with undergraduate, alumnae, and founders alike.
The Convention acts as a means to enhance and promote leadership
development, as well as create a broader social awareness to empower our
members academically and professionally. In short, it is a three-day network
of programs and gatherings that incorporate the will to succeed into a group
of impressionable young women that are at crossroads in their lives. It also
serves as an opportunity for alumnae and graduate members to reflect on
their individual professional needs.
We seek
to instill the value of leadership, sacrifice, and struggle through the
age-old concept of Unity. We provide an atmosphere which fosters positivity,
perseverance, and sisterhood. In the end, we hope to create strength in
nuestras hermanas. Our leadership development, self-assessment, and
educational workshops teach our members the necessary skills to thrive in
the academic and professional arena. It is through just this kind of
positive medium that we will bring our purpose to fruition.
